Opportunity

Australian self-directed investors were stuck managing their portfolios in spreadsheets or through broker interfaces that weren't built for tracking. Navexa had a clear answer — an intelligent portfolio tracker built specifically for Australian investors, pulling live ASX data, tracking stocks, ETFs, and crypto, and making sense of performance, dividends, and capital gains in one place. The web platform was already in motion. What Navexa needed was a mobile app — built from scratch, designed to match their web experience, and ready for an audience of serious investors who wanted their portfolio in their pocket.

Approach

We were brought in to design and build the Navexa mobile app from the ground up, working as a team of three. The engagement started in 2020 and covered everything from initial architecture through to App Store and Google Play submission, post-launch bug fixes, and a full code handover so Navexa could continue extending the app themselves. The app was built on Xamarin.Forms with Prism DryIoc, consuming Navexa's existing API through a custom API client layer, with Syncfusion charts for the financial data visualisation.

Solution

1. Portfolio Dashboard A clean overview of the user's entire portfolio — holdings grouped by type (ASX, Crypto), total return, and return percentage across configurable time periods — 30 days, 6 months, 1 year, and 3 years. 2. Holding Detail & Statistics Deep per-holding analytics — holding value, total return, unrealised and realised return, dividend return, quantity, and share price — all displayed with interactive charts showing performance over time. 3. Trade Management Users can log, edit, and manage trades directly from the app, keeping their portfolio data accurate and up to date on the go. 4. Multi-Asset Support ASX stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies tracked in a single unified portfolio view, with asset type grouping for clarity. 5. Authentication Secure login with email, Facebook, and Google authentication, with a clean onboarding experience for new users.

Technical Highlights

1. Custom API Client Architecture The app consumed Navexa's backend through a purpose-built API client layer — cleanly separated from the UI layer and structured for maintainability, which was a deliberate decision given the client would be extending the codebase themselves post-handover. 2. Syncfusion Financial Charts Per-holding performance charts with configurable time ranges built using Syncfusion's Xamarin chart library — handling financial data visualisation with the precision that investment tracking demands. 3. Clean Handover & Knowledge Transfer The engagement concluded with a full code walkthrough and setup assistance — enabling Navexa to take ownership of the codebase, extend it, and deploy future updates independently.

Impact

The app was delivered on time, matching the design exactly, with all post-launch issues resolved. Navexa has grown significantly since — rated 4.6 out of 5 on Trustpilot, tracking over $2 billion in portfolio value and more than one million unique trades. The mobile app remains live on the App Store and Google Play as part of that platform. In short, this wasn’t just an app build — it was a product expansion that turned Navexa into a truly accessible, investor-first platform
